When I was a child, I carried a bag full of dreams. Some were to fly in the sky, to roam across the world, to live outside my hometown, to enjoy an international job, to earn money and spend it fulfilling my aspirations. But one dream was different. I wanted to master a musical instrument that could mesmerize me completely. It had to be light in weight, easy to handle, and capable of producing smooth, fine, yet energetic rhythm. The one that suited me perfectly was the acoustic guitar.

I never imagined that life would give me the opportunity to realize my dreams so soon. Yesterday, another chance knocked at my door, whispering that I should add strings to my life. This dream accelerated when my friend Rakesh bought a guitar here in Japan some time ago. The moment I touched his guitar, I felt an ineffable connection. My fingers were starving for strings.

For a while, I hesitated, unsure if I should possess one due to time and other factors. But instinct is powerful, and it didn’t allow me to hold back for long. Last week, I visited several shops in Kawasaki, but none of the guitars felt right in my hands. This Saturday, I was determined that no matter what, I would find the one meant for me. And I did. A heavenly beauty, my very own guitar — the lumber one.

Now I am learning at a gentle pace with the help of a really good DVD. Wish me luck as I embark on this melodious journey. I hope that very soon I will be skilled enough to play something soulful. I will keep you posted as new things unfold. Goodbye for now it’s time for practice.
